Ibim Isaacs is striving for a conducive film industry in the Southern part of Nigeria.
Within the film industry in Port Harcourt, their is no other legendary man than the strong visionary and passion driven Ibim Isaacs.
Ibim Isaacs has spent morethan a decade exploring film production. In 2009, he secured his first film project. Prior to that golden effort, Ibim Isaacs popularly called The Legendary Man, has been in the creative spaces bringing solution to problems and have been living up to his name.
We had a chat on behalf of Port Harcourt Gist on Facebook. So he walked this writer through his long standing career. With stories which he told capable of inspiring you this reader. As an actor, film and television producer, screen writer and event organiser based in Port Harcourt. Ibim Isaacs, from Bonny LGA in Rivers State, has been an active creator within Port Harcourt creative spaces with his mark of excellence and contributions both in Filmography. And that has given birth to creations like “All On Greg,” “Chapters,” “Sualate,” “Sons Of The Caliphate” amongst others with some which he produced, co-produced and also explored his acting prowess on.
Ibim Isaacs has also worked with various event organisers to produce top notch events within Port Harcourt like “Humor Xclusive” with comedy maestro Prince Hezekiah, La’Afrique Fashion Festival, Oshikiri Festival and lots more. He has also worked with creatives like Justice Slik, Joyce Kalu, Diewait Ikpechukwu, Rahama Sadau, Mofe Duncan, Kenneth Okoli, Queen Wokoma, Ovunda Ihunwo and more.
According to The Legendary Man, “My bigger picture within the creative spaces is to be able to own a film studio. And also see that Rivers State becomes a conducive environment for creatives to rightly explore the film industry.” Ibim stated clearly. While he holds further believe that the film industry within Port Harcourt is a growing one. In his words, “We are still at the growing stage, one where it has been facing every natural challenge that every normal thriving sector would face.” He explained.
Also, the award winning Ibim believes that Port Harcourt cinema culture is not as robust as other kinds in various parts of Africa. “Our film industry is very silent. There is no intentional move by the film industry to be visible in the creative spaces. Instead of a collaborative loud effort, its just a pocket of individuals that are investing time, investing money, investing knowledge.” Ibim added, “Critically. The film industry is still struggling and that is a big problem. So what people like me would do is we trying to create a better environment. Create platforms, create structures, change mentalities to see how we can actually be visible in the creative spaces” He concluded.
As we discussed. I asked why he is often tagged the Legendary Man and he explained that he believes every brand is driven by a belief system. A philosophy. He also talked about how the name of any brand drives them through their actions, motives, objectives, goals and so forth. “I adopted the name Legendary Man because for me, I am about longevity. I am about consistency. I am about continuity. I am about creating marks, creating standards. Leaving my footprints in the sands of time. Positive foot prints.” He pointed out and launched to saybthat he strongly believes that one day he’d be one of the biggest film makers.
For Ibim Isaacs, he is not the regular guy. He believes in so much quality and also moves intentionally with huge standard meant to inspire his generation positively. Also, he looks forward to being an established film maker in less than five years as well as being the most sort after event person within the southern region. While he moves circumspectly with a great intention at heart. He wants to build a better and a very conducive film industry in Rivers State.
The Legendary Man, has plans to become one of the biggest film markers in the world. His philosophy of course has been to take his time to create works of excellence that would speak on his behalf even while he is alive and long gone one day.
