My Experience At Burna Boy’s Home Coming Part 1.
Though Burna Boy didn’t perform on stage, he showed his profound joy, gladness, and gratitude to his fans who felt the range inside and connected to their newly framed inspirational idol
27th March 2021, in the southern part of Nigeria, Rivers state people, held unto the arrival of their son’s coming: Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy. The Grammy Award-winning singer, who’s brought pride on his nation, his state, and community kinsmen in Ahoda West LGA of Rivers State.
Burna Boy has put smiles on our faces, he restored our hope to beam stronger after Star Boy Omah Lay, has started taking over the airwaves, and is dominating the Nigerian music stratosphere amongst contemporaries. He is Nigerian Headies' next rated act, meanwhile, other music stars are prompting to gain higher grounds and are sailing across Nigerian mainstream shores, as the pride comes from the creative industry in Port-Harcourt and cuts across its political horizon.
The night welcomes Damini Ogulu and was hosted by the Rivers State Ministry of culture and tourism, it was unforgettable.
His Excellency Governor, the Barrister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, confessed his pride upon the celebrant and took on Achilles hills, made his official speech for the night, full of surprise and promises and puts smiles on Burna’s face, and his family upon the night full of glitz and glam. Though Burna Boy didn’t perform on stage, he showed his profound joy, gladness, and gratitude to his fans who felt the range inside and connected to their newly framed inspirational idol for the Niger Deltans, they enjoyed the night.
I left my house by 8:00 pm, spent an hour to get to the venue at GRA, EUI event center, where I smuggled my way into the event arena; getting into the main event hall was hectic and the crowd at the front entrance into the hall was loaded with human folds; people striving to get in, no one coming out, and security hindering. One attendee told me, “For my own gate fee again oooh, them wan wound me, which kind country be this?” He threw the question at me and wandered somewhere else looking for the light in the tunnel that leads into the main hall.
It was past nine, and I was yet to enter the main hall; Ajebo Hustlers, one of Port-Harcourt finest duo: Knowledge & Piego, opened an epic performance with “Pronto” after several performing acts went down before my appearance. “Pronto” was viable, I could peep through the little glass window to see the crowd inside rocking and enjoying the vibe they were offered.
The duo looked presentable and flashy with their gold chains, and a performance that shook the entrance and every single soul struggled even harder to get inside the hall, few succeeded to get past the three muscular bouncers dressed in black pants, wore a cap that inscribed on the front: “Peterez Guard”, wearing a white polo and a black jacket.
One held a whip to take down stubborn radical fans, the other, with an electric shock device he used to threaten fans who continued to hit harder and hoped their defense loosen a bit for them to get inside. “Barawo” was offered next, and Ajebo Hustlers continued the tight flow before the atmosphere was seduced when Nissi, Burna Boy’s younger sister who came on stage, she looked appealing and it was after their collaborative song “Symbiosis”, she performed alongside the duo that later left the stage after the perform.
She continued with her songs and it was indeed memorable.
Duncan Mighty, the Port-Harcourt's first son, was called next to grace the stage and he tightly connected everyone in the hall. He wore an all-white attire, with blings and blings, a dark shade, and his entire sauce exotic; the vibe and feeling he disposed of fans were of many kinds, everyone was happy and overjoyed. From his old-time 2009 record, “Wene”, he performed and that left fans thrilled with joy, to Davido’s “Aza” featuring Him-self and Perruzi.
“Melody”, was his next perform before Wizkid’s collaborative “Fake” alongside himself; in between the moments, he hailed Burna and the fun increased, the love became more hot and massive when he left the stage to Burna’s position and laid off greetings.
“Lova Lova” tuned the crowd onto the roofs again, “Port-Harcourt Boy” as well as “Obianuju”, then he dismissed after the much Burna Boy’s hailing and it could be described, an all love game.
By this time, before Timaya’s appearance, I asked someone close by me named, Jesse. Jesse was on crutches and I was fazed how he managed to get past the crowd at the entrance into the main hall; all these moments after Ajebo Hustler’s performance with Nissi’s glorying, I was inside; I asked the guy on crutches who was focused on taking selfie-photos as he was feeling greatly happy with a broad grin, he tells me: “Man. I’m here for Burna, I love Burna Boy, He is my full inspiration and I don’t care about how I am, but I’m here, it’s all love, man.”
Jesse says and I was happy for him that he was having great fun at that time despite his condition in between, he was glad and never minded his condition either. I asked him if he would love to see Burna perform tonight, he affirms with big smiles and nodded his headed. Jesse was fulfilled that night and he confessed, “This is the first time, I’m seeing this guy, I love him so much, man. I’m an outsider!”
Jesse expressed the feeling of seeing his idol and he was satisfied but after the night he was sad because his Idol didn’t perform, nevertheless, he went home glad.
Timaya came on stage and it was lituation all over, he rendered all through hits songs and bangers that tied every single fan down for him.
He performed great songs and left words of advice and it was him motivating at a stretch, performing in between, connecting his fans, and left a brotherly bond with Burna Boy. He was proud and went back to their memories. It was all fun. He looked smart, very young, and fitted on his black upon black attire, dark shades, and gold earrings that sparked bright light from my view. I loved his appearance and he was hot on stage. Harrysong’s “Samankwe” featuring himself was offered first, His “Which Kind Life” featuring J Martins was next and it was an iconic performance.
“Na we get the industry now, Niger delta man is a very proud man, if you fuck with him…” Timaya says after performing the record that features Martins before he switched for his “Ogologo” that he made the beat to suit a laid back gospel song and he claps with the micro-phone, left fans singing along the song: “It shall be permanent/What the Lord has done for you/It shall be permanent/In Jesus name.” He sang with his heart, it was fun, fans screamed from behind, “Na prayer section oh, Timaya!.” “Born To Win” was his next performance, it connected with everyone and it was more spiritual to me, before we rocked “Don Dada”, as the fun dug deeper and it seemed unending.
Timaya took us to his chamber of motivation and he loud it clearly saying, “The best investment is on yourself, never trust anyone, nor invest in others.” The crowd kept cheering and loved the phase he brought them all into.
“Bam Bam”, was taped and he performed dancing, passing the hot fun across and we enjoyed it after “Concur”, and “Telli Person” came along. He danced to it and released himself to it. “Money”, was also offered, he performed it and almost everyone danced to the groove. “I Can’t Kill Myself”, came on, he performed and said to Burna, “This your Grammy, e be like you go cut half give small.” Burna Boy and his outsiders fans laughed out loud, the fun grew taller.
“Gra Gra” came on, as he specially welcomed the celebrant (Burna Boy) on the stage and he says, “The hard-work that this guy put to this thing nobody knows.” Timaya welcomes him and they left a strong brotherly hug for a long time before Timaya ended his performance with “Manugede”.
