These songs are my top 10 best record selection for 2024, ranked in no particular order. Moving forward I yearn to constantly share
Personally, the year 2024 was a tumultuous one. While my health was severely challenged from the start. Music was one of those pills I took constantly to retain my sanity and priceless peace. These songs are my top 10 best record selection for 2024, ranked in no particular order. Moving forward I yearn to constantly share you my top 10 best songs every year.
Victony — “Ludo” feat. Shallipopi
Victony and Shallipopi share a common perspective about a woman they seek, requesting that she follows their lead and throw herself at them. While Shallipopi expands the topic of the music to also talk about things like acquiring more money. The song is definitely one of those brightest gems from Victony’s debut studio album “Stubborn,” released earlier this year. “Ludo,” can easily become revelers favorite, having to expose listeners to powerfully structured grooves activated to turn one on. If you love and appreciate good sounds, and a simple track laid to express love and lust, and the fun and luxury lifestyle it often comes with. Then this song should be on your top pick because it runs unapologetically towards that direction.
Ruger and Bnxn — “RMD”
After their beef with each other on social media, Bnxn and Ruger later settled their differences to become one of the year’s most exciting collaborators in the Nigerian music industry. Their joint project tagged “RnB,” was a bonafide contender. With outstanding releases like “RMD,” “Bae Bae,” “POE,” amongst others. “Romeo Must Die (RMD)” was surely my favorite. So much full circle moments when they both tagged along. However, we hope they find time to make more intense records, stunting on a style of music unique to them and easily loved by many.
Ceeside — “What If”
I was introduced to Ceeside’s music by a friend. And fortunately after I listened to this particular single titled “What If,” she automatically became one of those artiste I would simply love to share her music with anyone. This year she released a dual packed single after gaining traction with “What If,” which excellently confirmed that she is one of those talented voices capable to captivate the heart and soul of listeners. Ceeside is not one of those artistes that are boxed to just exploring one topic of music; she is fluid and after you have paid attention to “What If,” you would understand her musical richness. And that she has so much power through music.
Smada feat. Odumodublvck — “Baba”
Smada and Odumodublvck, exercised so much creativity with “Baba.” While Smada is definitely one artiste to watch out for in the coming years, his style and energy on stage is contagious. With “Baba,” he refers himself to the baba, the only guy who can steal your girlfriend and run away to somewhere chill. Odumodublvck delivered as usual, and Smada, confirmed that he is one of those young talents we should truly watch out for.
Olamide — “Morowore”
Olamide continues his streak. His consistency in releasing music, delivering beyond average music and still appeal to many generation is worthy of note. With the release of “Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1,” his tenth project which showcased iconic hits like “Meta Verse,” “Morowore,” “Uptown Disco,” and more. Serves him moments that confirms that he is still a wonder in the music landscape. Olamide’s “Morowore,” strikes an intense desire for one to reflect on their journey so far. It inspires gratitude, and offers one the chance to look back in ones past as much it creates a sense of hope that there’s so much ahead.
Zebz feat. Dr. Barz — “Wahala”
Zebz and Dr. Barz, gives listeners a glimpse of their character with this song. With “Wahala,” Dr. Barz educates listeners with his flexible rap about his interest in acquiring more money, his dislike for causing Wahala: a popular slang in Nigerian pop culture that connotes trouble. This song fluently speaks the language of people who finds peace useful instead of chaos. While the year unfolded, this song became one of my favorites along the line.
Fireboy DML feat. Lojay — “Letting Go”
Since Fireboy DML was introduced to the Nigerian music scene under Olamide’s record label imprints YBNL. His pace has been non stop. This year he dished out his eponymous fourth studio album “adedamola.” While the album reception was positive, a song like the Lojay assisted “Letting Go,” offers a crystal clear picture of a complicated love. It is a true reflection of what happens in relationships between the opposite sex nowadays. A tumultuous love between two people who have grown inconsistent loving each other. “Letting Go,” creates the opportunity for one another to understand that sometimes when emotions fades away and one decides to walk away instead of settling for less, it is self love and what matters most.
Victony — “Ba$tard, Don’t Be Silly”
Victony makes music that defines his value for making money. This record is definitely one of my favorites this year. Chasing the paper is something that truly matters in the life of every human being— It concerns us and “Ba$tard, Don’t Be Silly,” creates a space in that moment. While Victony’s lyrics also touch on profanity, the real message is that you should take whatever that brings dough seriously. Don’t be silly moving forward.
Rema — “Heis”
With the successful release of Rema’s sophomore album “Heis,” he explored a sound alien to his core listeners. However, it shows so much sonic flexibility and his capacity to adapt, i.e he should not be boxed. “Heis,” was one of the most outstanding numbers off the project. A record delivered with Swahili language, showering praises and glory on Rema. He exalts himself as “number one,” and sincerely speaking he has been everything he said he was.
Ayra Starr feat. Seyi Vibez — “Bad Vibes”
While Ayra Starr’s streak continues. She is currently the most listened African artiste on Spotify. Her recent album “The Year I Turned 21,” offers a diversity in her thoughts, shows vulnerability, feminism, and shows a maturity in her musical approach. Ayra Starr has grown into a symbol for her generation to embrace. She is loved and has become every Gen Z’s icon. However, “Bad Vibes,” a track off her sophomore album which repels negativity was assisted by Seyi Vibez. It created an intense moment for listeners. Bad Vibes, shows her paying more attention to her business without minding what detractors are throwing at her.
