#RiversStateMusicGuild: Preshy P, believes in the future of the Port Harcourt creative industry
According to Preshy P, focusing on studies and chasing his musical passion has been a rocky ride. In his words, “It has not been easy to be honest.”
“I’ve this feeling that Portharcourt is the next place Nigeria and Africa would be looking towards in terms of creativity,” the 24-year old Afro-fusion gospel singer Preshy P says and adds that “I feel Lagos is choked already, and Portharcourt has been producing world class talents, so in the near future investors would likely start coming in numbers to pick raw talents from Port Harcourt.”
Akan Precious, known by his stage name Preshy P, is an Akwa Ibom born Port Harcourt based fast rising singer-rapper who signed a record deal with Celia Records in 2020, and a third year student of Abia State Polytechnic studying Mechanical Engineering. He started making music in 2015 with a crew and officially dished out his debut joint single in 2020 titled — “We Go Dey Ok,” featuring Cozy and Kaycee Blinx under the clutches of Celia records at the time.
According to Preshy P, focusing on studies and chasing his musical passion has been a rocky ride. In his words, “It has not been easy to be honest.” He stated and further launched to tell me how his creative process has been running saying how he can get inspired anywhere and anytime and that makes it easy for him to write. However, the overall combination of school even made it interesting according to him, though it is very stressful due to school activities but looking on the bright side, school has helped him meet like minds and more and more learning and development has taken place for his career growth trajectory.
Preshy P believes being a gospel creator doesn't have to box his idea when it comes to writing and performing songs that can as well positively affect the government and the lives of her citizens. While his chosen a variety of sounds like Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, Hip-hop and the likes as conduit to make amazing gospel oriented artistry, he claims that his sole aim from the art is message and it is all that matters most. He calls himself big on lyricism, and especially what a listener could receive from his music as significant.
According to him, “So today I could be on the gospel side, and tomorrow I feel something is wrong in the society and so I'd talk about it using words that the society would understand since the message is about them” He said, “My music always has a message, and my lyrics is something you wouldn't miss out on even when I'm on a featured track, I'm heavy on all of that it matters most to me.” He concluded.
While on his artistic catalog he has progressed hugely by minting a debut EP titled — “Genesis,” his reason for doing music is to inspire others however, it’s his own way of communicating with people even those he haven't met before. He draws his musical Influences from Tye Tribbett, Tim Godferey, Prinx Emmanuel and more and yet would love to work with them. In the end, Preshy P is one of those creative talents that heavily believes in the growth of the Port Harcourt creative landscape.
